How to Calculate Carton box Consumption?

Carton box is a common item for goods shipment. It can keep your products safe from damage and theft. It should be strong enough to protect the finished goods. Today we are going to show you an easy method for calculating carton box consumption.

Carton Box:

Carton box exist several corrugated ply-board. It is made by brown ply-board. Ply-board can be 3ply, 5ply, or 7ply. Buyer will fix ply-board quantity. Busting test is mandatory for carton box to ensure its strength. If goods damage during transportation by using low quality carton box then buyer will complain for compensation. Along with every carton box two extra ply boards have to use to ensure product security.

Carton Consumption Calculation Method in Garments Industry:

Carton box is made by using a ply-board. So, carton box consumption means “consumption of ply-board”. Someone should confirm the following information before calculating carton box consumption:

  1. Carton box height in cm.
  2. Carton box width in cm,
  3. Carton box length in cm,

Important tips**
Once above information at hand, a garment merchandiser can calculate ply-board consumption for the carton box and multiply with ply board rate.

Now someone can easily calculate carton box consumption by using the below formula. We can use following three formulas to get carton consumption:

Carton Consumption:

  • Formula of CBM (Cubic Meter): Length X Width X Height / 10, 00,000 X Carton Qty
  • Formula of carton measurement in square:  (Length + Width + Wastage) X (Width + Height + Wastage) X 2 / 10,000 X Carton quantity
  • Formula of carton consumption and costing: {(Length + Width) X (Width + Height)} X 2 + Wastage percentage

Q.1: Suppose, a carton has Length 60 cm, Width 32 cm & Height 38 cm, total carton 300 pcs. Now find out the cargo measurement for 300 cartons?

Solution: Length X Width X Height / 10, 00,000 X Carton Qty

= 60 X 32 X 38 /10, 00,000 X 300

= 21.88 CBM

Q.2: Suppose, a carton has 7 ply, Length 58 cm, Width 38 cm, Height 42 cm, total carton qty 200 pcs. Now find out the carton measurement in square meter?

Solution: (Length + Width + Wastage) X (Width + Height + Wastage) X 2 / 10,000 X Carton qty

(58 + 38 + 5) X (38 + 42 + 5) X 2 /10,000 X 200

= 101 X 85 X 2 / 10,000 X 200

= 343.4 square meter

Q.3: Suppose, a 7 ply carton’s per square (100 X 100) meter’s rate is USD 0.95. Carton Length is 60 cm, Width 30 cm, Height 38 cm. Now find out the carton price?

Suppose: (Length + Width + Wastage) X (Width + Height + Wastage) X 2 / 10,000 X Price

= (60 + 30 + 5) X (30 + 38 + 5) X 2 /10,000 X $ 0.95

= 95 X 73 X 2 / 10,000 X $ 0.95

= $1.317 / per pcs

Q.4: Suppose, a 5 ply carton Length is 62 cm (0.62 meter), Width 42 cm (0.40 meter), Height 35 cm (0.35 meter), price $0.75 per square. Now find the price per carton?

Suppose: {(Length + Width) X (Width + Height)} X 2 + Wastage Percentage

= {(0.62 + 0.42) X (0.42 + 0.35)} X 2 + 5%           [1 cm = 1/100 meter]

= {1.04 X 0.77} X 2 + 5%

= 1.65 square meter

= 1.65 X $0.75                                               [1 square meter = $0.90]

= $1.23/ carton

(Note: If you don’t want to add wastage, then avoid wastage value. For safety purpose, should be add wastage)
